Hello everyone. I have adopted the tradition of using song lyrics of the titles of my blogs. This one is a little obscure. It's from a song called "On My Own" from the musical, Les Miserables. I'm not exactly sure what the musical is about because I have never seen it, but I love the music that I've heard from it. It has a beautiful melody that twirls its flowing trails of music around your mind, ensnaring your emotions and manipulating them to be what they want them to be.
So, the song is very sad. Here are the lyrics:
On my own
Pretending he’s beside me
All aloneI walk with him till morning
Without him
I feel his arms around me
And when I loose my way
I close my eyes and he has found me
In the rain
The pavement shines like silver
All the lights
Are misty in the river
In the darkness
The trees are full of starlight
And all I see is him and me
Forever and forever
And I know
It’s only in my mind
That I’m talking to myself
And not to him
And although
I know that he is blind
Still I say
There’s a way for us
I love him
But when the night is over
He’s gone
The river’s just a river
Without him
The world around me changes
The trees are bare
And everywhere
The streets are full of strangers
I love him
But every day I’m learning
All my life
I’ve only been pretending
Without me
His world will go on turning
A world that's full of happiness
That I have never known
I love him
I love him
I love him
But only on my own
So okay, I know it's sad, but it is so beautiful. You must listen. =] ♥

You and Dave are some bastards. Stealing my ideas! lol.

ReplyDelete*world, sorry.
ReplyDeleteDid you delete my post? I apoligize if I said something you don't want people to see. I love you.
ReplyDeleteIn case you are still unsure about the premise of Les Mis, I would like to take a moment to share the brief story behind this song. The whole show is fantastic, and I would definately recommend anyone to see it, because I guarentee that everyone can find someone to relate to. The girl that sings this song is named Eponine, a poor girl abused by her obnoxious parents who falls in love with her best friend, Marius. Marius (of course) is the rich, well-dressed student who treats Eponine with kindness and regards her as one of his best friends. When a richer girl comes along who is just as pretty and very nice, Marius instantly falls in love (with Cosette). She falls for him too and the two of them begin a brief romance which includes him begging Eponine to find out where she lives so that he may visit her in her garden and giving farewell letters to her (via Eponine) in case he parishes during battle. Marius never sees the love that Eponine feels for him, and is in constant pain during his relationship with Cosette. This song is sung after she delivers his farewell letter to Cosette's father where she overhears Marius describing his everlasting love for Cosette when the father reads it aloud. As the lyrics state, she has been in love with him for almost an eternity and this is finally when she opens up about it to the night air. Afterwards, she returns to the scene of the battle just to be with him where she is the first victim shot by the opposing soldiers. Eponine dies softly in his arms as he discovers her love for him and he pledges his love in return. ("A Little Fall of Rain")
ReplyDeleteI am a bit partial to Eponine in the love triangle b/c I played her in a production of Les Mis. Once again, I highly recommend seeing the musical.
